“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8). The church in Jerusalem came into being when the Holy Spirit came down and empowered the apostles. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, Peter delivered his first evangelistic sermon with great boldness, and fiery passion, and as a result three thousand people were baptised and led into discipleship. In the past centuries, God has helped His Church grow in faith by raising up saints, who became living witnesses of how to live the Gospel anew. One of these saints, St. Philip Neri, helped Romans in the 16th-century to return to the practice of their faith.
Jesus told His followers, “Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then comes the harvest' I tell you, look around you and see how the fields are ripe for harvest” (John 4:35).
In today’s times, when secularism and atheism are replacing Christian faith and morality, God entrusts upon us the evangelical ministry of spreading the Good News to the lost ones, and people who are away from the Church. Through the Holy Spirit, God continues to share his ministry by bringing together people who are committed and have a burning passion for Jesus in their hearts. Sehion Ministries in the UK is immensely blessed to have deeply committed and anointed Christian Malayali families who are actively involved in the re- evangelization of UK and Europe. We have been anointed by the power of the Holy Spirit to be the witnesses to Christ amongst our own communities, our parishes, our work places, and wherever we go.
The Second Saturday Convention which began with 70-80 people gathering for an anointing in the Holy Spirit has grown by leaps and bounds, with many thousands flocking to receive their miracle from Jesus. I can only but, thank the Holy Spirit for the countless blessings, deliverances, conversions, and healings that have taken place during the Conventions. One can clearly see the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the families who come along with their children in the evening to spend hours in prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament and stay until morning; the many young adults, who pour out their heart in the presence of the Lord. It is a joy to see teenagers and children taking courageous decisions in the Spirit to grow in holiness and practice chastity. God is blessing many Christian parents who are making the effort to raise their children in the wisdom and knowledge of God.
God our Father is working many wonders and miracles through all our ministries: Kids for Kingdom, Home Mission, Media ministry, Street ministry, our regional conventions and retreats where many thousands have given their hearts to Christ. Jesus said, “Go throughout the whole world and preach the Gospel to all people” (Mark16:15). We are all called to be saints of this era; we need to be the body of Christ visible to the whole world around us. It should be through each one of us that others can see the living God. When we love others, others will know that we are His disciples (John 13:35). Therefore, let’s work together in the Holy Spirit to rebuild the Kingdom of God in unity, peace, love and hope. I pray that each one of us open ourselves to the call of God in our lives so that He may come into our hearts and be with us till the end of time (Mathew 28:20).
With love and prayers,
Fr. Soji Olikkal
